Human Resources - Organisation and Staff Development
Developing Capability
We work with managers and staff across the University to identify and address training and development needs.
Each year, we facilitate a series of tailored professional development workshops. These workshops provide staff with skill development in communicating effectively with others, delivering impactful presentations, building effective working relationships and conducting selection interviews and making informed hiring decisions.

We also develop and deliver customised training courses where appropriate to suit the needs of specific offices, departments or teams.
Capability Frameworks
Capability Frameworks are developmental tools to support selection and development and build career paths across the University.
Competencies
These are clusters of behaviours required for successful performance of a specific role or Job Family. They are observable, tangible and the primary focus for development. Examples include the behaviours required to provide effective service to internal/external customers or generate effective solutions to problems.
Attributes
These are personal qualities and motivators related to how effectively we perform and the level of satisfaction we derive from a role or Job Family. Examples include the capacity to deal with pressure and a willingness to learn new skills.
Knowledge
These are the technical and/or professional skills and information needed for successful performance of a specific role or Job Family. Examples include a degree in accounting or knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations. There are two levels:
- The essential technical and/or professional skills and information incumbents need to bring to the role or Job Family (i.e. the skills needed from day one).
- Technical and/or professional skills and information that are either advantageous or can be developed within the first three to six months in the role or Job Family.
Experiences
These are the practical experiences and exposure to specific work environments or activities related to successful performance of a specific role or Job Family. Examples include experience in customer service or project management. While there will be several types of experience relevant for each role or Job Family, incumbents do not need to have worked in all of these.
